INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD 2012

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a unique competition to discover, encourage and Challenge mathematically gifted young students all over the world. The IMO started in 1959 in Romania. India’s participation in IMO started in 1989. The Indian participation in IMO is sponsored by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The IMO held in a different country every year has now become a truly international event in which more than 100 countries participate.

To prepare and select the team of students to represent India at the IMO, a month long intensive training camp is organized every year. The participants of the training camp, about sixty in number, are selected through an Indian National Mathematica] Olympiad examination held at different centers of the country in February every year. Six of the students of the training camp are selected to represent the country at the International event. As in the previous years, the IMOTC-2012 was organized at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai. The faculty for the Camp has been drawn from different institutions in the country. Prof. S. S. Sane of Indian Institute of Technology, Powai, Mumbai is the National Co-ordinator for the RMO and INMO and Prof. B. J. Venkatachala of the Mathematical Olympiad Cell, HBCSE, T IFR, stationed at Bangalore, worked as the Academic Co-ordinator of the IMO Training Camp.
